Carbon label scheme for Tesco
GreenBiz.com 15th April 2008
Shoppers at Tesco will be able to choose between high and low carbon potatoes, detergents, orange juice and other goods when new carbon labels hit the shelves today.
The retailer is putting carbon labels on 20 product lines as a first step towards putting the labels on all its goods. The labels, bearing a small logo of a footprint, show the amount of greenhouse gas emitted in the course of making the goods on sale.
Carbon labels are beginning to gain currency as a way of helping consumers to make purchasing decisions based on green criteria - Boots, Innocent Drinks, Walkers Crisps and other companies are using the labels, while several more are considering doing so.
