Lend Lease Retail & Communities UK

The challenge

B. sustainable was invited to create a new style, tone-of-voice and structure for Lend Lease Retail & Communities’ first sustainability report in the UK. It would be from this stand-alone report that all sustainability messaging would be developed for their UK development business.

With a line already drawn in the sand, the business had taken stock of its achievements to date and set objectives and targets for future sustainable development within the organisation. With this in mind, we knew we would have to produce something that would challenge the competition, through the targeting of key audiences, and provide a benchmark for future reporting.

This report would help drive the business in pursuit of its objectives whilst also enabling Lend Lease Retail & Communities to be acknowledged as market leaders in sustainable development within the UK.

The solution

Working in partnership with Sustainability Consultants, Battle McCarthy, we developed the structure and tone-of-voice for the report that highlighted the challenge that Lend Lease faced, their commitments and targets, along with case studies illustrating their performance to date.

We developed a design that could be used for future Lend Lease sustainability communications and incorporated various elements of their existing corporate brand. Through a bespoke photo shoot, we created a report that was visually engaging and simple in the communication of Lend Lease’s sustainability commitments.

Printing of the report in a sustainable manner was handled by B. sustainable along with the recommendations on paper stocks and final finishing.

To reduce the requirement of printed collateral, we created a microsite through which the report could be downloaded and viewed.

For the launch event, B. sustainable designed and produced an animated video that was based around messages from the Directors of the business and their views of what sustainability meant to them.

The design of the report was well received and created the impetus for sustainability to be integrated further into all areas of the business. The project also prompted cultural change within the organisation – employees became more aware of their own impacts and were empowered to make decisions on how they can be more sustainable through their actions, both at work and in their home life.

Feedback from our client:

Our first Sustainability Report has been a very successful internal awareness tool for our employees and provided a launch pad for external exposure for Lend Lease’s sustainability commitments. Great flexibility, creativity and enthusiasm were shown throughout the project and we are very please with the result.
